Challenge
Renovating a commercial kitchen within an active correctional facility presents unique operational and security challenges. Etowah County Jail needed a temporary kitchen that could support institutional meal production while accommodating incarcerated individuals working in foodservice, facility security procedures, and ongoing construction activities.
✓ Maintain Uninterrupted Meal Service: Support daily food preparation for a correctional facility with a reported 977-bed capacity.
✓ Accommodate Inmate Kitchen Workers: Provide a functional temporary kitchen environment where incarcerated individuals assigned to foodservice duties could continue working.
✓ Address Correctional Security Requirements: Coordinate temporary kitchen placement, access, and operational considerations within an active, secure correctional environment.
✓ Support the Renovation Schedule: Maintain essential kitchen capabilities throughout the 10-month renovation without relying on the permanent kitchen.
