Project Overview

Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health needed to maintain uninterrupted food service while renovations were completed to its permanent kitchen. Working with Mashburn Construction, KCI Temporary Kitchens provided a 1,350-square-foot, three-wide temporary commercial kitchen facility to support onsite meal production throughout the renovation.

The temporary facility was configured to provide the essential functions of a commercial institutional kitchen, including production cooking, food preparation, warewashing, dry storage, and dedicated walk-in refrigerated and frozen storage.

Challenge

Maintain food service during an active healthcare kitchen renovation.

Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health required a reliable way to continue preparing meals while its permanent kitchen was undergoing renovations. As a behavioral healthcare facility operating around the clock, shutting down onsite food service was not a practical option.

The temporary solution needed to provide sufficient production, preparation, warewashing and storage capabilities while fitting within the project’s construction schedule and site requirements.

Solution

KCI Temporary Kitchens supplied Mashburn Construction with a three-wide temporary commercial kitchen facility designed to maintain food-service continuity throughout the renovation.

The facility incorporated commercial cooking and preparation equipment along with dry storage, a walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer as well as a tempered make-up air to assist in keeping the conditions of the kitchen reasonable during all seasons of the year.

With the temporary kitchen operating onsite, Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health could continue supporting daily meal service while construction proceeded on its permanent kitchen.
